Most gardeners recognize the importance of humidity in the greenhouse, but do you know the "optimum humidity" for the plants you grow? It varies plant by plant and the best way to determine the "optimum" for each plant is to check the encyclopedia of horticulture to find out where it is a native. Then you reproduce the native growing conditions as best you can in your greenhouse. Example: African violets from Tanzania grow in a relative humidity of 75 degrees or higher. At the other end of the scale are cacti that grow in desert in areas where the relative humdity is less than 30 percent. Seed propagation generally requires humidty approaching 100 percent. If you are growing a variety of plants that require different humidities you can partition the greenhouse with plastic to create seperate climate zones.
